Ambassadors for Christ

John 14: 7-14
Acts 13: 44-52 / Psa 98

I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these…
(John 14:12)

Christ saved us from the prince of lies,
For our sins He was crucified;
He now asks us to sacrifice
So little to be sanctified.

(Jesus said,) “If you know me, you will know my Father also. From now on you do know Him and have seen Him.’ Philip said to Him, ‘Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and you still do not know me? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, “Show us the Father”? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own; but the Father who dwells in me does His works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; but if you do not, then believe me because of the works themselves. Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father. I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If in my name you ask me for anything, I will do it.’ (John 14: 7-14)

Reflection

“You will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father.” The apostle Philip was so inspired by the words of Jesus that he clearly fulfilled what his Master had told them. Singlehandedly, he had converted the city of Samaria by the miraculous signs that he performed in Jesus’ Name (Acts 8:4-8). What our Lord meant when He said His disciples would do “greater works than these” was that their deeds would glorify His Name, and would lead to the conversion of thousands of Gentiles, which, ironically, did not happen to the hard-hearted Jews who had witnessed the miracles that He had performed in their midst.

Just like Philip and the other apostles, we also have the duty as Christians to glorify the holy Name of our Lord Jesus Christ by being His ambassadors — bringing His message of salvation to others, just as we had received it when we were invited to the life of Christian renewal. As our Lord Jesus had predicted, we can even do greater things than the apostles, who took weeks or even months traveling to other cities and countries in order to spread the Gospel. With the help of the internet, we can broadcast the Word of God and our personal reflections in just a matter of minutes. We now spread the Good News of salvation via “hyperspeed” without any hassles involved in the “journey”.

In the home front, we hold monthly week-end seminars for out-of-school youth in the “Days With the Lord” (BIL), win the marketplace for Christ through our evangelization programs, and conduct the Brotherhood’s Christian Life Program (BCLP) for new members. In this regard, we would like to ask your help in praying for more participants to join our BCLP #3. This eleven-week immersion program will start on Saturday, May 4, 2013. Through this seminar we hope to bring souls to the Father through a more intimate knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ, and a radical transformation of their lives in our Brotherhood.

It is never too late to transform our lives by getting to know Jesus better. By meditating on the Bible, especially the Gospel accounts, Jesus will reveal Himself to us through the power of the Holy Spirit. The more we come to know Him, the more we will become like Him, and the easier it will be to bring others to Him when they see Jesus in us. In this way we will be fulfilling the words of Jesus, Who said, “The one who believes in me will also do the works that I do…” And what a joy it is to do the works that our Savior did!

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the gift of Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, by Whose example we can aspire to be holy, and be worthy of Your eternal kingdom. Grant that we may become closer to Him, by being an “ambassador” to every person we meet. Amen.
